The Great Christmas Bake Off
In the summer of 2016, we were all heartbroken to hear that bake off as we know it would be coming to an end as it plans to move onto Channel 4. As Mel, Sue, Mary and Paul all plan to go their separate ways BBC One offers one last hurrah with an ever popular Christmas spin off of one of the UK’s favourite cooking shows. There will be 2 installments, each will welcome back a mixture of former contestants from series past, as they don their aprons ready to tackle a number of festive baking challenges.

Doctor Who Christmas Special
The Doctor Who Christmas Special has been a BBC Christmas tradition since 2005 when the show was first re-instated back onto our TV screens after a lengthy hiatus. However, the first ever Doctor Who Christmas Special titled “The Feast Of Steven” appeared on our TV screens back on Christmas Day in 1965.
This year the episode is titled “The Return Of Doctor Mysterio”. Rematerialising in modern day New York, The Doctor is again called upon to save the world from an alien threat. There will be appearances from Matt Lucas (Little Britain) and Charity Wakefield (The Player). Peter Capaldi reprises his role as Doctor Who, and there are rumors that the special will include a well-known superhero. This show is set to be a must watch for all the family.

Gogglebox is an ever popular Channel 4 show that allows viewers to look into other people’s homes and capture their reaction to the week’s most dramatic and memorable TV moments. For the Christmas episode, some of the year’s best reactions and funniest scenes will be rolled into one, making for a full hour of non-stop laughter.

Robot Wars Christmas Special
Recently revived after years off the TV screen, Robot Wars features teams of challengers who build robots in the hope of being crowned Robot Wars champion. Presented by Dara O’Briain and Angela Scanlon, the Christmas special features celebrity contestants including Radio One DJ’s Scott Mills and Chris Stark as well as a whole host of other recognized guests, who will compete to be crowned Celebrity Robot Wars Champion 2016. The battles will take place over 2 hour long episodes airing after Christmas Day.

We’re Going On A Bear Hunt
The story makers who created “The Snowman” which avid viewers of Christmas TV may remember featured the hit song “Walking In The Air” by Aled Jones, are back with an all new adventure titled “We’re Going On A Bear Hunt”. Featuring voiceovers from Mark Williams, Olivia Colman and Pam Ferris, the visual of the story is based on the bedtime book by Michael Rosen. It follows the story of a family who go in search of a bear, but instead discover a secret in the other side of a dark forest.

These are just a selection of some memorable must watch TV programmes available to view for free on Digital TV this Christmas time. There are of course even more Christmas specials available on other digital TV channels, and for Sky customers there are also Christmas specials of popular Sky One shows too.
An annual event, and a regular Christmas tradition, this years “Queen’s Speech” will be featured on BBC One at around 3:00 PM on Christmas Day. This is yet to be confirmed.
