Ever watched something in High Definition (HD) as opposed to Standard Definition (SD)?

I watched a nature programme the other day and was completely blown away by the vast difference between the two.

I'm not sure if I would be all that bothered about watching the soaps in High Def, but for Films and Documentaries, I think it makes all the difference. I was stunned and excited by the crystal clear pictures and the clarity of detail and I would definitely recommend HD to anyone who enjoys their TV.

At the moment, there are a few main ways to receive HD. The paid for option is Via Sky, where you have to purchased a Sky HD box and have it installed, then pay a monthly fee to view.

The other main option is to have BBC Freesat, this offers HD as standard when you purchase the HD Set top box and it's a one off equipment and installation fee. After that, there are no further monthly fees or contracts to worry about. They also keep adding new HD channels  without having to pay any extra.

Make sure you have a HD ready TV though, otherwise it doesn't matter which option you choose, they just won't work!!

The decision to move from analogue to digital has not been taken lightly, however the benefits far outweigh the disruption this may cause and brings the UK right into the 21st century.

Depending on the type of TV Aerial you have already, you may be fine when the time comes to switch. However, your TV Aerial needs to be a digital compatible one otherwise you may have some problems.

There are a few ways to find out whether you have a digital compatible TV Aerial, it is one of the most common questions we get asked by our customers.

Digital UK suggest you go to Teletext page 284 to check whether your aerial is ok for digital. However, a lot of our customers have said this is quite confusing (their words, not ours!). There are a number of factsheets available from www.digitaluk.co.uk . We have tended to find the easiest way is to offer our customers a free survey.

We can quickly determine whether your TV Aerial is compatible or not using our state of the art equipment. If you would like to get a Free TV Aerial Survey carried out by one of our trusted engineers, just go to our contact us form and ask for information on Digital Aerials

There are so many benefits to switching over to Digital Television, and that is why the UK Government have opted to turn off the analogue signal and switch over to digital.

Digital is much more flexible and efficient compared to the analogue system we currently have in place. There are lots of new and different services.

  •          Higher Quality TV reception
  •          Better picture quality with no 'ghosting' or 'pixelation'
  •          Standard and High definition pictures
  •          Better sound quality
  •          Lots of interactive features

In my next blog, I'll be telling you how you can check your TV Aerial to see whether it is a Digital compatible aerial!
