I'm really struggling to get a good quality picture from my TV Aerial?

Want to know why, no matter what you do, you just cant get a clear picture on your TV?

I'll be blogging about all the different issues which can have a huge effect on your TV reception quality. One of which hopefully you'll say 'ahh, so that's what it is'  to and solve your reception problems for you.

It can be very frustrating, when , try as you may, you just can't get the picture you desire. It doesn't always matter on the quality of your equipment, there are lots of 'easy when you know' possibilities.

So to get the best quality TV reception, watch this space.

I'll start with an obvious one for you.

How far do you live from the main Transmitter?

Your picture quality can depend on how far away you are from the transmission towers of your local TV station. If you live further than say 35miles away, this can make a difference, although it's not necessarily the reason.

If you live in an area where perhaps there's a hill or lots of obstacles in the way of a clear line of site between you and the transmission towers this can obstruct the signal and therefore cause poorer quality TV reception from your Aerial.

So in general, the closer you live to a transmission tower and the clearer you line of sight, the better your chances of receiving a good picture quality from you TV Aerial.
We've found some very interesting facts and figures for you. With some much happening due to the Digital Switchover, it's interesting to see where we're all turning for our Digital Ready equipment.

This Report from Ofcom, shows you all the details.

If you're not really interesting in general facts and figures but would like some help and advice about TV Viewing in your area, just give us a call on 0800 389 9025

UK Digital TV close to 90% - December 2008

Findings released by UK communications regulator Ofcom indicate that 88.2 per cent of households have digital TV on their main sets, up from 84.8 per cent on the year.

Other key findings in Ofcom's Quarter 3 digital television update reveal that the total number of households with digital terrestrial television (DTT) reached 17.2 million, up from 16.7 million during the quarter.

Among digital pay TV services, Sky TV grew its customer base by 87,000 to almost 9.1million subscribers during the quarter, with the number of Sky customers subscribing to its High Definition (HD) services standing at 591,000 (6.5 per cent of subscribers) up from 498,000 during the quarter.

Cable operator Virgin Media increased its number of subscribers by 37,700 to approaching 3.6 million households; almost half (49 per cent) of its customers were using its video on demand - vod service There were 45 million vod views over the period, up by 17 per cent on the quarter.

There are 617,000 households with free satellite services. Of these, around 100,000 were taking the BBC/ITV freesat service of which 73,000 units (68% of sales so far) were HD enabled

Interesting stuff, but what does that mean to you? Well, not a lot, I really wanted to demonstrate how quickly things are changing and moving forward - There are so many different choices and we offer all available choices via TV Aerial and Satellite Dish.

Why isn't it working?

Why isn't my new Freeview box working properly?

Freeview box missing some channels?

The common reasons for this problem are:

1.Your installation has a grouped aerial rather than a wideband aerial.  Digital channels are in clusters (called Multiplexes or Mux's), quite often these Mux's are spread across the UHF band, hence the need for a wideband aerial.  Whereas in most instances, analogue channels are located closely together.

2.Not all transmitters currently offer a full digital menu; this will change as and when the digital switchover is implemented to your transmitter.  For further information visit www.digitaluk.co.uk

3.The existing installation is below specification or faulty.
If the installation is more than 5 years old there is a possibility that the cable is single screened rather than the recommended twin screen and that the aerial does not have a balun to match the impedance of the aerial and cable.

Please remember that we offer a free on-site survey and advice for this and other types of reception problems.
